Like selective mutism, you have probably never heard of Misophonia unless you or someone you know has it. Misophonia is not officially classified as a mental illness as that is still in debate, we are going to add this little known condition here because it is something very few people know about. Misophonia means hatred of sound. If you look up the word Miso you will likely find it is the name of a traditional Japanese seasoning which originated from the South Chinese or Korean word for Flavoring sauce which might make you think Misophonia is the sound of flavoring sauce or something. Anyway, the Miso used in Misophonia comes from the Greek word for hatred. Misophonia is considered to be the hatred of sound because people with it can't tolerate many common noises such as people breathing or eating.
